Thrifty vintage : Dress your life
Once upon a time my nails were always done, usually in red. The habit fell off when I was a waitress in a store with a strict “Country Fresh” dress code; flashy nails were a no-no. Clear or natural became the norm with the help of lots of cuticle oil.
Regaining blocks of time in the evenings and on the weekends, I have been painting my nails more often and with more complicated nail art. Art being subjective, you probably won’t catch me posting lots of manicure photos.
About two years ago, I tried to pick up the nail polish habit again, but it seemed there was only time on holidays or during an evening of Masterpiece Theatre to put on nail color and have it dry sufficiently. Then discovering newer fast-drying top coats helped me get back into polishing my nails, and now I am trying new nail products regularly.
Let me say that there are some wonderful online nail art gurus, and their reviews led me to my favorite nail product: OPI Nail Envy. It is great for base coat or bare polish, and it lasts for at least a week on its own. I can’t live without it now.
Generally, the manicure is basic and nearly nude, but this week I’ve been wearing nail polish strips. I was hesitant – they tend to be patterned or too bright, but I’ve gotten lots of compliments. Some “comments,” too, if you know what I mean.
Based on most reactions, the nail experiments will continue because they seem to help with having a “polished” look. (Now for lipstick.)
